Paddled before? Click here to join us >>
If you have paddled before and already have your One Star Qualification, you are welcome to join us at any point.
If you have paddled before but dont have your One Star Certificate all we ask is that you attend one of our sessions where one of our coaches can pick a suitable group for you to join.
When and Where?
In the summer months, April to October, we meet on Thursday evenings from 6.00pm at The 33rd Scout HQ at Halton. In the winter months, we meet at the club hut on Saturdays from 12.00pm, and usually paddle nearby in the vicinity, subject to paddling conditions, or go further afield on a trip. We also have regular practice pool sessions.
What kit do I need?
If you’ve paddled before, you will probably have your own kit. But there’s plenty at the Club that you can borrow for free too. So whether you need a boat, a buoyancy aid or a cag, there’s normally enough to go round. We would encourage you to have a roof-rack to ensure that you can transport your own boat, as the club is largely reliant on individual members transporting their own boats (plus others if they are feeling generous and have space!).
How many people join?
Several people join us throughout the year on an ad-hoc basis as they move to the area and are looking for a club to join, and you would be made most welcome. The club is a great mix of children, students, independents and families, and you will already have plenty in common with many of our members.
I’m an experienced paddler but I’ve lost my certificate. What should I do?
You must have your certificate to join our club for insurance purposes. If you do not have your certificate, you can either apply for a duplicate from The British Canoe Union, or you can join a new One Star Course as a Beginner. Unfortunately you won’t be able to join us without it.
I’m an advanced paddler with good experience of moving water grade three and above. I never actually did my One Star Qualification. What should I do?
In this case, please contact the Club Secretary on 01524 812213. It may be possible, strictly subject to our capacity, for us to arrange a one-off One Star examination for you in order that you can then join. This would cost the same as the One Star Beginner Course (without having to participate on the course). Please note that this is not always a possible option, and that in most cases, you would have to join the annual Beginner One Star Course.
